George Gordon discusses aluminum toxicity, and how strange it seems that it is still so commonly used, contrary to well-known health risks. One use of aluminum he did not mention in detail is its use in drinking water clarification. Everytime a person showers in aluminum sulfate, aka “Alum”, especially in hot water, the skin can absorb 1 quart of water in just 10 minutes! 90% of metals absorbed by the body are done so through the skin. 200 ppb (or 0.2 mg/L) is a standard for the maximum level of aluminum preferrably allowed in drinking water, but these average upper levels nearly double a dose that is a risk factor of dementia & Alzheimer’s disease. That is only the tip of the iceberg compared to total dietary intake too, for drinking water only accounts for 3% of our dietary exposure to aluminum. “Aluminum and silica in drinking water and the risk of Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive decline” “..Using random-effects models, the authors found that cognitive decline with time was greater in subjects with a higher daily intake of aluminum from drinking water (greater or =0.1 mg/day, P=0.005).. Using a Cox model, a high daily intake of aluminum was significantly associated with increased risk of dementia.”… www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov “Relation between Aluminum Concentrations in Drinking Water and Alzheimer’s Disease: An 8-year Follow-up Study” Oxford Journals / Medicine / American Journal of Epidemiology / Volume 152, Issue 1 Pp. 59-66 “In conclusion, our study suggests that a …
