Alzheimers Cases Expected to Balloon in Coming Decades

Report says Treatment Cost will be Staggering VICTORIA — The ‘World Alzheimer Report’ calls dementia and other diseases that destroy memory, an international health crisis. The report predicts the number of people in the world with dementia will double by 2030, an estimated 66 million new cases. It also says the annual global cost of dealing with dementia is a staggering 4 billion dollars US. That’s blamed on the cost of long term care required for people with dementia. Doctors around the globe are asking for more research so they can accurately spot dementia early and develop treatments to stop the brain from decaying. The report calls on countries to creat national plans, and give more support to caregivers and scientific research.
