Vascular dementia carer’s story

Richard Wallace has been caring for his wife Daphne since she was diagnosed with vascular dementia several years ago. Richard likens the initial feelings he had when Daphne’s mental health started changing to a bereavement. He says the diagnosis of Daphne’s vascular dementia coincided with him retiring and says he found it hard to cope with both things at the same time. Richard also says that being told by his son that he would always be there for both Daphne and him was very important.
